But the two things I really had my eye out for was an old typewriter or camera. I found both at this one table ran by an older gentleman and his wife. I walked around and returned to look at this table 4 or 5 times. I was only going to get one item. But couldn't decide, typewriter or camera? I finally made up my mind to buy a camera. Now came the even harder part... which one! He had two old cameras and to get them both meant more money than I had budgeted for. He noticed my interest in purchasing a camera and asked me if I was a collector. I said not yet but wanted to be! So he took the cameras and told me the history of them and all the neat features they had. After learning all about them I definitely couldn't make up my mind on which one to bring home. So I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about the price. I asked "So what would you take for the both of them?" And wouldn't you know it... the price he so nicely dropped it down to was exactly what I had with me! It was fate I tell ya!
So meet my new favorite things I have ever owned!!
This is a Wirgin camera. It's german made and dates back pre-WW2. It still works! I just need to find some 120 film.
This is an even older camera! It's a No3A Kodak jr. They made these 1918-1927. It still works but I've done some research and it's really hard to find the 122 film needed for it.
I just love thinking about all the interesting pictures they might have taken back then! If these things could talk!
The details on these things are so neat! I've become a little obsessed... can you tell?!
So now I have a new hobby, collecting old cameras! We also picked up some old stamps for Jon's mom's collection.
What kinds of things do you collect?

Is it horribly shallow of me to say I don't collect anything?
ReplyDeleteI am learning to knit and sew, at 50, so I guess I'm collecting a new skill set...
:)
Love the cameras, and the pictures of the cameras! You have an eye and a gift.
They're awesome! We have an old pin hole camera, so I can understand your obsession haha.
ReplyDeleteWhere I live there was a whole street dedicated to antiques and I loved it. Unfortunately some expensive shops bought out the area so now I have to go to the other side of town to get there :(
That sounds like it was a great street! Too bad it's no longer there! I wish we had a street like that near here!
ReplyDeleteThank-you so much for saying that! not shallow at all! I'm sure you collect things and don't realize! Like I collect... eyeshadow, or navy blue shirts, or fortune cookie slips! Besides collecting is essentially just a hobby. And knitting and sewing are definitely hobbies, so I think you're covered! hey! perhaps you in a way you're starting a yarn or fabric collection? :)
