I HATE writing "about me"s! I'm SO bad at it and I sound like a giant tool! I feel as if what I sound like is "Like... haaaii! I totally love pink things.. and umm like bubble gum... and the color pink and I like shoes and... like did I already mention pink things??" I'm sure it's not that bad but when I read what I've typed it sure feels like it!
Ironically one of the first things I love to read when I discover a new blog is their "About Me" section! Even if I've been following that blog for a while I'll check that page. It gives me a good idea of their personality and what they feel is important to know about them and what their interests are. Then I can read what they've written about a shared hobby, or an unfamiliar topic.
Some people just write a short sentence or two, while others have this amazing page written that makes me feel like we could instantly be bffs. That's where my problem lies. What do people like to read in "About Me" pages or write-ups?
I just added to my page. The pictures of me make me cringe, although any picture of me seems to have that effect! Of course if I could learn how to smile without my "smile twitch" perhaps I'd love pictures of me more. Oh I haven't mentioned that yet? Perhaps soon. It's one of my
I added some of my favorite posts that I've written. There were more I really like, but how many are too many?! I think I like those ones because they're pretty honest and genuine. I wrote them without much of a filter. It's easier to do that when at that time you know you're the only one reading them!
Garsh! I feel like this whole post is one long rabbit trail! The questions on my mind today are:
What do you enjoy reading in "About Me" sections? Do you like lots of pictures? Links to lots of different posts? A vlog? Or do you prefer to discover who the blogger is through posts alone? What's on your "About Me" page? Check out my About Me Page and tell me what you think.
Oh good, I thought I was the only one who hated writing About Me sections! I always feel like such an epic phony. Like I'm going "Look at me, I'm so awesome! You wish YOU could be as awesome as me!!" and then I read over it and it just seems kind of pathetic and sad. So I delete the whole thing and start again. I like your idea of linking to your favourite posts - I might have to steal it from you!! :)
ReplyDeletehahahah i HATE talking about myself. i can't tell you how long it took to write my about me. i love reading whatever anyone writes about themselves. as long as it's honest, doesn't matter what's there. "It gives me a good idea of their personality" precisely! i think yours is adorable :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! I contemplated just skipping most of it and jumping right to "I'm pretty awesome!" but I thought I'd save all that humility for the posts! I like your "about me", it gives me a good idea of what topics you typically write about!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I love that you have a random bulleted list about yourself! It's a fun sample of what the reader can expect!
ReplyDeleteI hate it too. I mean, how do I make myself sound: funny, interesting, smart, charismatic, etc. etc in a couple paragraphs? I always feel like I come off as stuffy and uninteresting. Definitely not my intent.
ReplyDeleteI really like your about me page! It's colorful and concise and I think the idea of putting your favorite posts on it is brilliant. I really don't like when people ramble on and on in their about me pages. It makes me worry they might be just a touch narcissistic!
Thanks Ada! Yeah there's a line between writing too much of a description about yourself and just right. It's tough to know where that is! Sometimes it'd be easier if sense of humor translated better through words!
