Thanks again laydilyke!

Life According To Instagram
If you follow me on instagram you might have already seen these photos. But I figure what better way to get a glimpse into my life lately than to see a few photos from my phone!
If you want to follow me on instagram you can find me @carisle
I've been spending as much time as possible outside and in the garden. My flowers are making everything look so pretty!
It's BBQ grilling season!
While we watched Jon do some work on my car, Butch and I sat nearby and soaked in some sun. Butch climbed to the roof and stretched out there.
We headed out to my dad's for a visit. While we were there we drove out to the pasture to check on these babies. They came right up to the truck door.
Ok so alllmoost embarrassed to admit this but I've been working through the series. I am on the very last disc! It seems like so long ago since this was on air! I've been checking out this post often. I love her commentary!
One of my favorite things about dinner in Panama was drinking red wine every evening with my meal. We've been enjoying trying out different ones lately.
So relaxing and peaceful

The Eagle That Was
For a while now the eagles have been playing tricks on me. They often fly around dipping and soaring or sitting on the trees right by our house yet I can never seem to get a photo of them. I run in and grab the camera only to come out and find them gone. It seems not long after I put the camera back or have gone inside, they come back. Sometimes I think they're watching for fish in the lake or perhaps the many rabbits that hop around here. But other times they're pretty focused on our little dog Butch. Today I looked out and saw one sitting on a nearby tree watching the lake. So I quickly grabbed my camera and headed out. The closer I got the more nervous it seemed and almost ready to fly away so I didn't take the time to change the camera settings so the photos are the best.
And just like that he had had enough. Off he flew.

Gone Bananas
What do you do when you're given a case of bananas?
You start baking!
The bananas were over-ripe and needed to be used up as soon as possible so we baked what we could and froze the rest. I see a lot of smoothies in their future! We also froze a majority of what we baked. I don't like having a lot of baking sitting around. So whenever we make something I either try to freeze some of it or send it with Jon to work. I lose a lot more weight that way! Here's a few snapshots of the goods before they were eaten/frozen.

Dehydrated banana chips
Only one of the most dangerously delicious pies! Chocolate and bananas can't go wrong!
Then we made a ton of banana chocolate chip muffins and banana spice muffins. But we threw them in the freezer before we thought to take a photo. We've just about use the rest of the case between smoothies and eating them. We still have a couple bunches left that we have to use up today or tomorrow! But all in all pretty surprised we used almost all of them!
What's your favorite banana recipe?

Chasing Butterflies
When I was a little girl I had this goal; I wanted so much to have a butterfly land on me. I thought it would be so neat to have it sit there and let me see it's beautiful wings up close. I tried over and over again to sit as still as I could among flowers where they fluttered; anxiously waiting for them to mistake me for a flower and land. I'd get impatient and try to catch one in my hands, but that failed to work too. Disappointed, I would give up for the day only to try again the following one. I thought about trying to trap it with a net or container but I didn't want to accidentally injure it. I just wanted to admire it.
As I got older this was no longer an immediate goal. I'd watch them flutter and dance by but didn't make an effort to have them land on me.
Years ago when Jon and I first started dating we were both working in the middle of the mountains. The majority of our dates those first several months were hikes on our time off.
One afternoon we went to a lake nearby. After hiking the trail around the entire thing, we sat down to enjoy the view of the mountains. While we were sitting there it happened. Butterflies flew up and started landing on us.
It was as wonderful experience as I had imagined. Just like that I was no longer 22; I was 5 again.
I was reminded of all this today when I was outside enjoying the sun. A beautiful butterfly flew by me and for a split second I thought about chasing it but decided against it. I smiled remembering that sometimes goals have a wonderful way of surprising you. They can come true when you least expect it.

Sometimes I Pretend I'm A Psychologist
I've not sure if I've mentioned this a lot on the blog or not but for the longest time my goal was to become a family counsellor. Three of my four years in college were working towards attaining my B.A. so I could go on and get my Masters in family counselling. I enrolled in as many psychology courses as I could in college. I was enthralled. But my love of psychology came several years before... in high school. I wasn't a huge fan of my psych teacher in HS but I did appreciate some of her teaching methods. While we were learning about certain topics she would have us go out into our town and do experiments and make observations to report back the next day. One experiment that has stuck with me over the years was based on how we perceive people according to what they look like. We had to go out to nearby stores and find people we didn't know (which wasn't always the easiest thing to do in a small town like ours). We were to observe them for 30 seconds to a minute, write down on a piece of paper what we thought their names were just based on their appearance and how they carried themselves. Then we had to walk up to them and introduce ourselves, explaining the experiment. We then asked them what their names were and compared it to what we had guessed. Of course no one got it right, but it was a fun experiment.
The point behind the experiment stuck with me over the years. I've often had tedious and monotonous jobs so I would often try to do things to make them more interesting or at the very least, make the shifts go by faster. I came up with a few of my own "psychological experiments" that every so often would conduct again. One of my favorite ones to do was based on my appearance and if that changed how people treated me both as an employee and as a customer.
I had three different things I would try:
(1) obvious make-up. By that I mean people could tell I took time on my make-up that day. Particularly I would wear black eye-liner.
(2) a little bit of make-up but not much. Very natural looking.
(3) no make-up at all.
Each time I would observe how people treated me, if it changed from regularly. As an employee, did customers treat me better or worse depending on my appearance? As a customer, did I receive better or worse service depending on my appearance? I did this many times over quite a few years. And the results were almost always the same.
For appearance (1) as an employee people were often more respectful of me. Less likely to get angry and be rude. And instead more likely to make small talk with me while I served them. As a customer I often got better service in places when I took extra time on my appearance that day. The employees were more attentive and friendlier.
For appearance (2) this was basically my thing I measured the other two against. The neutral field if you will.
For appearance (3) these were usually my most negative experiences both as an employee and as a customer. People were in worse moods when they wanted help with something. They were more impatient and likely to be rude. As a customer I found the service less attentive. I had to seek someone and ask for help. There was less likely a time of friendly chit chat.
Now I'm not making any concrete conclusions but the experiments showed that strangers treated me a lot better when I wore more make-up especially eye liner as opposed to no make-up at all. But there's one element that I've always wondered if it played any role in these outcomes... my self-esteem. Maybe it wasn't completely my appearance that changed the way strangers reacted to me, but instead the way I carried myself that influenced them. Perhaps on days I took more time on my appearance it caused me to have a better image of myself, in turn making me act more confident. And days I wore no make-up, maybe that caused me to be more timid and insecure.
I guess I will never know 100% one way or another but sometimes it's fun to objectively observe people and the way they interact with others.

Have You Seen My Spy Pins?
I'm not a morning person. I need to be up like an hour and consumed 3 cups of coffee before I'm in any degree functioning. When headed out I always give myself way more time than necessary to get ready in the morning just so I'm much more pleasant and alert when I get there. On weeks that Jon is on morning shift he has to get up pretty early. Hours before my alarm is set to go off. I don't get up to make him breakfast, he's totally on his own for that! Thank-you frozen breakfast burritos! But there are some mornings I get up and use the washroom or have full conversations with Jon, fall back asleep and have NO memory of this later on in the day. Yesterday when Jon got home from work he asked if I had some pretty good dreams last night. I couldn't recall any so he then went on to tell me about a weird conversation we had that morning.
Jon: "Hey babe, I'm leaving for work now"
Me: "I don't have my pins!"
Jon: "What? What pins?"
Me: "My pins! I need my pins! I don't know where they are!"
Jon: "Babe, what pins are you talking about?"
Me: "My spy pins!"
Jon: What is she talking about?! "Your ear plugs?"
Me: "Yes! Those!"
Jon: "Ok here's a new pair"
Me: snooorreee
Apparently I must dream I'm a spy or something! Do you ever do weird things in your sleep? Are you a morning person?

Currently
spending... a lot of time outside and in our garden! The past two weekends we spent almost completely outside! The yard looks great and we're pretty much all planted with some things starting to sprout! But with all this nice weather lately I'm...
listening... to it rain on the roof right now. I'm not complaining, I love the sound of rain. Plus it will keep the grass green. And with this slight lobster hue on my shoulders from yesterday's sun, I could use a day or two inside.
snacking.... on green grapes! After a week-end of not so healthy calorie choices I'm feeling guilty and back to better choices. I'm hoping to reach 2-0 pounds lost by the end of the week so I need to get to it!
reading... Girl Walks into a Bar. I love reading biographies so when I was looking for a new book to download onto my kindle I decided to give this one a try. I saw her on a talk show promoting this book and she made me laugh a few times so I thought I couldn't go wrong. I was right! I'm about 3/4 of the way through this book and it's made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Which isn't always the best thing because Jon has been sleeping next to me! I appreciate her sense of humor so I've been enjoying reading it.
tapping... my foot to Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men. I like to turn the online radio station Jango on sometimes in the afternoon. Sometimes they pick great songs for me but other times they're a little off. I'm not THAT big of a fan of Little BowWow that they need to play him every other song.
worried... about coming across a bear on our daily walks! We've seen a couple bears while we're driving but haven't seen them while we're on foot. Yesterday after we parted from our walking partner she said a couple minutes later a truck stopped when they were driving past and told her she had walked past a bear! It was in a clearing just far enough she couldn't see it on foot but he saw from his vehicle! We always have the dogs so we'd be ok but it still makes me nervous!
excited... about the art journal I started this weekend! I've admired them for a long time now and really wanted to give it try. My perfectionism and criticalness was keeping me from just going for it. But this week-end I decided what can it hurt! I've only done two pages so far but I'm really enjoying the process. I'm not an artist by any means but it's definitely challenging me to be creative in different ways!

Thoughtfulness
I love receiving mail from blog friends! Especially when it's a surprise! A couple days ago I found this beautifully made card in my mailbox! It was from a blog friend who had recently received a necklace I made. For a lot of the items that leave my shop, I never hear back from the recipients. Sometimes I receive an email from them that they liked it but more often I don't. I always hope that they like it as much in person as they did when they saw a photo and purchased it. That's why it absolutely makes my day when someone let's me know how much they like! This card was no exception. It reminded me of the wonderful connections that can be made through the blogging community and how a little thoughtfulness can go a long way in someone's day!

Fill In The Blank Friday
This week it is:
I find it so ironic that this is the prompt for this week! Mostly because in deciding whether I wanted to start a new blog or stop all together, this is something I asked myself.
I realized that I blog mostly for myself. Don't get me wrong; I love comments and making new blog friends! But for the most part I blog because I feel it's therapeutic. I have things on my mind I want to get out. Sometimes I hit publish and other times these thoughts end up as drafts. When I am brave enough to share my thoughts with the internets I usually feel so much better from the support I find from others who can totally relate. I love the connection that is felt through a blog post. I might never be able to meet all these people I consider blog friends; but that doesn't make the interaction any less significant.
I look forward to reading everyone's answers! If you want to see what other people wrote click the first button and head to Lauren's blog!
Welcome!
Hi! Welcome to my blog! I used to have another one but decided it was time for a change! I love the name I decided for this one! I think that "A Fly In My Coffee" fits my personality so perfectly! First, I love coffee; so there's that. But more so, I like to think of myself as an optimistic pessimist. I occasionally have moments of seeing the positive side of things but more often then not I have a tendency to expect the worse.
So thanks for checking out my blog! I look forward to getting back into the blogging swing of things!
P.S. I just figured out how to import all my posts from my old blog! So please bear with me if things are a little rough around here in the next week or two!
