One of my all-time favorites is You've Got Mail. Seriously, I would be safe to guess I've watched it at least 50 times. I have the whole thing memorized and I always laugh seconds before the funny parts. That's probably pretty annoying for whoever is watching it with me. Almost every time I sit down to write and email, letter, blog; I'm reminded of that movie. Specifically one part. I can't seem to get it to embed! So click this link to watch it!
For those that don't want to click the link here's what Meg Ryan's character says:
"Dear Friend,
I like to start my notes to you as if we're already in the middle of a conversation. I pretend that we're the oldest and dearest friends; as opposed to what we actually are, people who don't know each other's names, and met in a chatroom where we both claimed we had never been before. "What will he say today?" I wonder. I turn on my computer, I wait impatiently as it boots up. I go online, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You've got mail. I hear nothing, not even the sound on the streets of New York, just the beat of my own heart. I have mail. From you."
Ok so perhaps I don't think all that stuff. But the sentiment is true. I do like to start my notes like that, and I do like to think that we are the oldest and dearest friends. Every comment, email, letter, tweet brings a smile to my face and makes my day! So thank-you! I try my best to respond to each one so keep em coming! And thanks for visiting me! I feel like we're friends already :)
ohmygosh girl I adore You've got Mail and I LOVE that line! Meg Ryan is such a fabulous actress and just adoring in this role! I so agree starting and ending days with blogger friends and having that support system makes my day so much better- even if it's just one line..its 'i have mail..from you' :) xo
ReplyDelete"You've Got Mail" is a great movie. Meg Ryan used to be so good! You know, until she Botoxed and collagen-ed her face up to the point of not being recognizable anymore.

ReplyDeleteLove, Love, Love! this post! :) And that movie! :)
ReplyDeleteI always feel the same way when I get an e-mail, comment, letter, etc. etc. It's like a little smile wrapped up in words! How fun is that?! ;)
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I absolutely love You've got mail and I love that quote. Blogging is so wonderful and has come so far since the days of AOL Chat. Haha.
ReplyDeleteOh I know! I can't watch her most recent movies! I saw an awards show where she was doing a presentation and I could hardly watch her! It's kind of sad really!
ReplyDeleteI loved her in this role. I thought her and Tom Hank were adorable together in it! It's great how something like mail can make a person's day!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl! the first time you watched it? Sounds like there might be a story in that? The first time I watched it, I was with my parents and my aunt and uncle... and right at the end where they are having their moment and it's all quiet like, my uncle speaks up and says in a girlie voice, "so like are you the guy who was emailing me the whole time? or like where did he go?" It was really funny the way he said it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bri! I love that! "little smile wrapped up in words" so true!
ReplyDeletethank goodness for high speed! Although I did appreciate the chance to make an after school snack while I waited for the dial up to connect!
