Usually in our small town they go all out for Canada Day with breakfast, cake, bbq, sports games, kid's water park. The only thing they don't have is fireworks. If you want to see those you have to travel an hour to the city. We have fireworks for our huge town halloween event every year but not for any other holiday. This year however, we heard they were going to have some for Canada Day. We wanted to attend some of the day events but the weather was miserable; rainy, windy, cold. Not fun. But we bundled up and packed our umbrella and braved the elements to see the fireworks. We got there a bit early and staked out the perfect viewing spot. It was a bit of a hike down a hill. Did I mention it rained? So our pants, socks, shoes were drenched by the time we got to the spot. I managed to catch myself from slipping on the mud down the hill. Anyways, we weren't going to let it get us down. We wanted to see some lights display. Our spot was over looking the river and the fireworks were going off above it.
I'm still learning a lot about the manual settings on my camera so the first several pictures didn't turn out all that good. Though I do really like the water reflection.

After that I started to get the hang of it a bit more. I enjoyed the view and stopped messing around with the settings. Good thing too, because the fireworks lasted 12 mins. It seemed like as soon as they got started they ended! But oh well, it was still cool to see.

This last one is my favorite

How did you spend your week-end? Did you celebrate Canada Day or the 4th of July? Any fun traditions?
LOVE that last picture! I love fireworks but can never get a great picture of them - which is alright, I guess ... spend more time enjoying them as-is than focusing on the camera. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the last pictures! I've yet to take any photos of fireworks since I got my SLR, but I'm kind of intrigued to see how much easier it is than setting my point and shoot on 'fireworks mode' (totally useless, unsurprisingly!).
ReplyDeleteThat sucks that it was raining though. I spent my weekend huddled around a bonfire at someone's birthday BBQ (cos having a BBQ in -5° weather is a GREAT idea!), and packing for my move in ten days time!
Beautiful pictures. Fireworks can be so hard to get good photos of!
ReplyDeleteI spent canada with my amazing wife watching fireworks :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Great pictures! I love the reflection on the water too!! I am happy I saw these because I missed out on fireworks this year for the 2nd year in a row! I was working this year. Last year Megan and I went downtown Toronto to a spot we were sure we would see a great show. Unfortunatey they moved them and we saw nothing. we could hear them, but see nothing. How disapointing that was! So...thanks for your firework pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteya... i hear ya. fireworks are a load of pain when it comes to taking pictures of them but yours turned out really awesome (not like mine lol)
ReplyDeletehappy belated-birthday canadian friend!

I don't have a fancy camera... but I just learned how to adjust a few of the little things that I can... like white balance etc. OH MY, it made such a difference. So great and fun to play around with! Your pics are fab by the way!
ReplyDeleteWell, we celebrated the 4th of July IN Canada! Haha, we went to Niagara Falls on both the Canada and New York side :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's one of my favs too! I find that as well. I spend so much time trying to get the perfect picture that I miss the view! I'm working on not having to feel like I HAVE to capture it all and sit back and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteso you did! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah I'm glad I got a few good ones finally!
ReplyDeleteBBQ's are fun! Although -5! Wow that's devout! Hope your move went well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lindsay! Aww that's too bad! Next year? Or perhaps your dad should put on a fireworks show just for you! That would have been SO disappointing to hear them but not see them! It's like hearing an ice cream truck but never seeing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jello! haha I won't even tell you how many I deleted! The percentage of good to bad pictures is sad!
ReplyDeleteThat would have been so neat! I bet the fireworks over the falls was awesome!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered white balance a few weeks ago too and it makes a huge difference! I don't know how I took pictures without it! I love learning new tricks!
