The One About Four Years

Today is Jon and I's 4th Wedding Anniversary!  Four years! That's like a preschool kid. Or a Bachelor's degree. This fourth year has felt different, but then again they all do. For the first three years we lived far away from any family and we moved a lot, always having to make new friends. This resulted in us focusing a lot more on our relationship with each other and the roles we played there and when hanging out with other couples.

This past year we've lived close to family. And when I say close I mean couldn't get closer. We've had to focus a lot more on our relationship with family. Both mine and his. Our bi-weekly dates have become more about the dire necessity to be alone and focus on us. We've had to show and convince our families that marriage to us means a united team, despite their past rocky relationships. And we don't need advice or opinions of how we're doing it all wrong. It's been working great for us.

I love that he still surprises me with flowers or presents. And that I can't help but smile when I first hear his voice when he comes home from work. We no longer debate on how I should give up my night owl ways and join him in the early to bed group. It's just accepted that that's how we each are. Sure it's not all rose covered glasses, we have our share of disagreements. But we're a lot better at dealing with them now than in our first year and they end a lot faster. The anxious groom I married who was so nervous he basically shaved his face red, and almost freaked out when I was late to our wedding... he's relaxed. And still wears my favorite cologne or my favorite shirts on him, even if it's just a quiet night at home. But my favorite thing that he still does is kiss my forehead before falling asleep and say "Have a good sleep my angel".

So here's to year number five! I don't know how it could get any better! I'm so lucky! I'm grateful every day that you're in my life and we're in this together. To many many more ! Love ya Babe!
